HM Inspectorate of Probation is an independent Inspectorate, funded by the Ministry of Justice, and reporting directly to the Secretary of State on the effectiveness of work with adults, children and young people who have offended, aimed at reducing reoffending and protecting the public. We inspect both the quality and impact of services provided, and make recommendations to assist providers to improve the effectiveness of their services.
We carry out many thematic inspections examining different aspects of work with adults and children and young people. We work closely with colleagues form other criminal justice inspectorates and the inspectorates covering education, health and social care.
We are seeking a short-term placement with detailed knowledge of our inspection topic to be seconded in to our inspection team for a period of up to six weeks over a three-month timeframe to help plan, carry out and write up inspection findings.
We are seeking someone who can work as part of a team with proven operational and strategic experience in the following topic:
• ETE provision for children in the criminal justice system
placement to start November 2021 – exact date to be confirmed with candidate (fieldwork between 29 November 2021 and 28 January 2022)
Short-term placements provide an excellent opportunity to learn about inspection, gain more knowledge about the inspection topic and contribute to improving practice. Guidance will be provided in inspection skills and procedures.
Applicants should be aware that the role does entail frequent travel within England and Wales and the necessity for overnight stays away from home.
