2023 John Hawkins Award Winners
Camden Youth Justice Service & Honest Grind Coffee Initiative
The Honest Grind Coffee initiative in Camden offers entirely bespoke and flexible to support children who have been NEET for a long time and have various challenges in returning to education or employment.
The children can work in various strands, such as coffee roasting, packaging, social media and online orders.
As usual the entries were judged by the previous year’s winners, Bradford’s Sparks! Project. They said:
“I think it was the most beneficial, allowing disadvantaged children with employment opportunities, along with the opportunity to develop public and social skills, whilst helping those in other disadvantaged communities around the world.”
“There are a variety of job opportunities with pay rewards. Camden honest grind coffee initiative is really good – Fab idea for young people to be doing paid work experience as it keeps them busy and gives them money, so it stops them from doing any offending as they have their own legit money in their pocket. Also gives them a skill.”
“Can offer something like this as it will help YP gain skills for working and dealing with the public.”
“Good to get kids into work that didn’t want to, so they can get used to it.”
“Offers job opportunities for those who have struggled. Helps young people do something constructive with their time instead of crime.”
