YJB extends KPI deadlines after letter from AYM (England) and YMC (Wales)

The YJB have agreed to extend the deadline for the submission of the new Youth Justice Key Performance Indicator data after the Association of YOT Managers (AYM) England and YOT Managers Cymru (YMC) Wales sent a joint letter requesting the extension on behalf of their members.

Data submissions for the KPIs for quarter one data are now due to be submitted along with quarter two data at the end of October 2023.

In her letter, Steph Roberts-Bibby, Interim Chief Executive says:

“We appreciate the pressures faced by services during a period of significant change and whilst recognising the importance of this data collection, we hope the extension will support you in these exceptional circumstances. Thank you to those services and the Association of YOT Managers (AYM) and YOT Managers Cymru (YMC) who provided feedback to us on this subject.”

AYM (England) and YMC (Wales) jointly request extension to new KPI submission deadline.

The Association of YOT Managers (AYM) England and YOT Managers Cymru (YMC) Wales have sent a joint letter to the Youth Justice Board (YJB) in relation to the submission of New Youth Justice Key Performance Indicator data.

“Collectively we request that the requirement to submit Quarter 1 data on new KPIs be postponed until the end of October and be submitted alongside Quarter 2 data, this will provide valuable time for YOTs to familiarise themselves with the Data Extract process, ensure accurate data submission and relieve some pressures from YOT staff in what will be a very busy period.”

Job summary
The role of the Highly Specialist Mental Health Practitioner is to strengthen and enhance health provision for young people coming into contact with Coventry’s Youth Justice Service. Clinically, the post-holder will be expected to conduct specialist assessments, direct therapeutic work, case management and professional liaison/consultation as necessary. The post holder will be expected to work closely within local and national Youth Offending/Justice Service (YJS) protocols.

Main duties of the job
The post will be based with the Youth Justice Service in Coventry.

The post holder will:
Act as a point of contact for young people in custody with unmet health needs, and colleagues within the Youth Justice Team who are concerned about a young person’s mental, physical or sexual health.
Undertake direct specialist clinical work via holistic assessment, planning and evaluating interventions where appropriate.
Act as an interface between the Youth Offending Service, custody and specialist CAMHS, AMHS and other health providers.
Gather and report on outcome data relating to Health Team performance.
Undertake clinical supervision and mentorship for any other team member and students on placement.
Contribute to key training and interventions regarding health issues to young people, colleagues and the wider network.
Work within the parameters as directed by the criminal justice system.
Travel as required to a variety of settings to deliver health services to young people, including Young Offender Institutions, Secure Training Centres and other care environments.

We are looking for a skilled and talented manager to lead our Youth Justice Service, Safer Options (Extra Familial Harm/Serious violence prevention) and Safer Communities teams in our diverse and vibrant city.

This is a new role within our Early Help & Targeted Services with a strong emphasis on partnership working to lead our youth justice service and extra familial harm/youth violence prevention and response and our Safer Communities work.

You will have leadership experience in the field of youth justice and/or community safety and serious violence prevention including multi-agency partnerships and teams.

You’ll work closely with the Head of Service and your established teams to lead on the promotion and understanding of the Council’s statutory responsibilities regarding Youth Justice, Community Safety and reducing Anti-social behaviour.

You will lead a learning culture in the service and the adoption of evidenced based research and practice including child first, strength based trauma informed and contextual safeguarding approaches through implementation of the Bristol Practice Model.

The Adolescent and Youth Offending Service is an established team that focuses on the contextual issues that exist for young people. We have brought together a range of provision including the preventative arm of the service that delivers high quality and engaging sessions with young people identified as being at risk of being exploited or potentially entering the criminal justice system.

The Youth ‘Offending Service takes a holistic approach in working with young people and their families, to eliminate areas of their lives that may be putting them at risk of committing crime, and we strongly take into account the journey of the child and the trauma’s they may have experienced through their younger years by creating effective tailored interventions.

This is an exciting opportunity to work in a new way, focusing on engaging young people and thinking creatively.

You will develop strong links with education providers, parent and victim officers, police, social care, mental health, and drug prevention services, to help meet the needs of the young person.

This is a challenging yet rewarding role where you will need to work under pressure and develop great relationships. You will be part of a dynamic, enthusiastic multi agency team that includes YOS workers, exploitation social workers as well as a range of partner agencies that are leading the way in safeguarding our vulnerable and exploited adolescents.

Some evening and weekend working will be expected as part of this role.

This post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and a comprehensive screening process will be undertaken on successful applicants including an Enhanced Children’s Department of Barring Services check.

About you
You must have a passion for working with adolescents and be able to think creatively and respond to their needs, engaging them in a way that is helpful for them whilst also maintaining professional boundaries.

You will be skilled in delivering one to one and groupwork sessions. You will also have the ability to complete assessments, create plans, identify risks, evidence your work on our systems (a thorough induction and training will be available to the suitable candidates). In addition, motivate, encourage, engage young people and their families.

You should be able to work collaboratively in a multi-agency team and to share information appropriately, both within the Adolescent and Youth Offending Service and with partner agencies.

To be considered for these positions you should have previous experience in Social Work, Probation or any relevant higher or further education qualification in social care or criminal justice.

Coventry Youth Justice Service (YJS) is a fast-paced multi agency team consisting of staff from the Local Authority, Police, Probation, Health and Education. What is the job role?
This is a fixed term contract for approximately 12 months.
