Roni’s GEMS Award

In memory of Roni Checksfield, former head of Hartlepool YJS, AYM offers an annual award, “Roni’s GEMS”, with the full support of Roni’s family.

Roni was regarded as someone who was always “Going the Extra Mile” for his team and for the AYM. He was AYM’s regional representative for the North East and Cumbria and then our national secretary. For AYM he was an absolute gem who lost his life far too young.

The award is for an individual YJS team/service/ business manager who has been tenacious in overcoming obstacles and who has enabled their team/service to achieve positive change for children. A team or service could also nominate itself for the work it has done together to overcome resistance to change.

The award is presented at our Autumn Conference each year and the winner receives £500 for their service.

Judging will be undertaken by Roni’s former colleagues in Hartlepool, supported by AYM and his family. Please keep nominations concise, no longer than two pages.
